Live blog: Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler tied for lead in PGA Championship defense

The year’s final major is upon us.

We’ll be tracking all of the action from the opening round of the PGA Championship at Bellerive. Follow all Round 1 progress below:

UPDATE No. 5 (11:50 a.m. ET): Rickie Fowler is now tied for the lead!

He’s 3 under through 12 and co-leading along with Thomas (out in 3-under 32) and Rafa Cabrera-Bello (also through 12).

UPDATE No. 4 (10:53 a.m. ET): Your defending champion is now tied atop the leaderboard.

Justin Thomas birdies No. 15 (his sixth) and moves to 3 under. That sees him tied with Stewart Cink (3 under through four) for the lead.

UPDATE No. 3 (10:08 a.m. ET): It’s barely past 9 a.m. local time, and the defending champion is already one back.

Birdies at Nos. 11 and 12 move Justin Thomas to 2 under. He’s one back of Ian Poulter, the leader after three early birdies.

UPDATE No. 2 (10 a.m. ET): Some big names are off now, and it’s a mix.

Justin Thomas opens par-birdie, and the defending champion is one back at 1 under. Phil Mickelson has begun par-birdie-bogey to sit even par. Rory McIlroy opens bogey-birdie and finds himself even par. Rickie Fowler is 1 under through five, Jason Day sits even par through three.

Tiger Woods is off to a horrific start. Bogey-double bogey has him 3 over through two holes.

Jim Furyk, your U.S. Ryder Cup captain, is tied for the lead at 2 under!

UPDATE No. 1 (9:20 a.m. ET): Adam Hadwin is your early leader. He birdies Nos. 2 and 3 to move to 2 under.

Nine players overall are under par among the 45 off so far. Low scores have been predicted this week and they may come. But they are slower arriving than we thought so far.
